Sanjay Leela Bhansali is set to begin work on the much-awaited Madhubala biopic in September, soon after wrapping up his ongoing film Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. The director is expected to complete the final leg of the film’s shoot at Royal Palms in Goregaon by the end of August.
According to a report by Mid-Day, Bhansali will shoot the last song of Love & War at Royal Palms next week. Once the shoot is completed, the same location will reportedly undergo a transformation for the Madhubala biopic, which stars Sara Arjun in the lead role.
An industry insider revealed that the production design team will begin preparing the location immediately after the Love & War schedule concludes. The source said, “After the ‘Love & War’ shoot concludes at the end of August, the production design team of the Madhubala biopic will start work on transforming the space. The film is expected to roll in September.”
The untitled biopic will be directed by Jasmeet K Reen, known for Darlings (2022). The project had earlier been put on hold reportedly due to financial challenges. However, the film gained momentum after Bhansali came on board as a producer.
Sara Arjun has also started preparing for her portrayal of the legendary actress. The source further said, “Sara has started preparing for the role. Jasmeet wants to capture Madhubala’s personality, mannerisms, and the world she inhabited.”
Sara, who recently gained wider recognition through the Dhurandhar franchise, played Yalina Jamali, the female lead and love interest of Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari.
With Love & War nearing completion, attention is now turning to Bhansali’s next production, which aims to explore the life, personality and era of one of Hindi cinema’s most recognised stars, Madhubala.
